Carpenters * Floor Coverers * Millwrights

In the floor layer’s program, apprentices will concentrate on learning the process of installing carpet, hardwood, ceramic tile, and resilient flooring. They will also learn to safely and properly use a variety of tools, adhesives, and fastening systems.

Requirements

  • must be at least 18 years of age.
  • must pass a drug test
  • complete the application process as listed below

Indenturing Process

After completing the application, begin the indenturing process.

  • After speaking with an outreach specialist, obtain a job and a letter of intent from a signatory contactor
  • Contact the Kansas City Carpenters Training Facility at to schedule a time to go and get indentured. The Kansas City Floor Layer’s Apprenticeship Program is currently indenturing applicants on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday 8a.m. to 3p.m. Wednesday 9a.m. to 3:30p.m. Friday 8a.m. to 11a.m., and is located at:

Kansas City, MO 64129

You will need to bring the following:

  • Letter of Intent
  • Photo ID
  • Social Security Card
  • $50 permit fee (cash, check, or credit card)
  • Take and pass a drug test
  • Sign Apprenticeship and Union Membership agreement
  • Pay permit fees

You will then be scheduled for the New Apprentice class at the Kansas City Carpenters Training Facility, and be registered with the U.S. Department of Labor

In the millwright program, apprentices will learn skills that focus on handling industrial machinery and equipment. These skills include but aren’t limited to reading blueprints, installation, maintenance, repair, and welding. Millwrights benefit a variety of industries including automotive, power generation, oil and gas, and renewable energy.

Applying for a General Carpenter Apprenticeship

At the Western Missouri location, apprentices will learn various skills used for building houses, commercial buildings, concrete structures, and industrial facilities. They will learn to work with building materials such as wood, drywall, metal studs, and fasteners commonly used on construction job sites. Carpenter apprentices will be exposed to many aspects of the trade, working toward mastering their skills.

Indenturing Process

Beginning the indenturing process:

  • Obtain a job with a signatory contractor and obtain a letter of intent on company letterhead signed by a representative of the company
  • After contacting the contractor willing to commit to your employment, you will need to contact the Kansas City, Missouri Training Center to schedule a time to come and get indentured
  • Contact the Kansas City Carpenters Training Facility to schedule a time to go and get indentured. The Kansas City Apprenticeship Program is currently indenturing applicants on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday 8a.m. to 3p.m. Wednesday 9a.m. to 3:30p.m. Friday 8a.m. to 11a.m., and is located at:
